Passion Living

How do we live our lives with passion? What is passion? Clue, it definitely involves running through the house with scissors!
It might be as small and simple as reading to your children or in your local library for a bunch of little ones! Or picking up a coloring book and actually coloring in the pages like you once did as a tot. Remember when you were little and that thing or things you did for hours and hours that you couldn't wait to go do after school or dinner and time had no existence? You maybe were wearing pants that mom made from the living room curtains and a Scooby Doo t-shirt and hadn't combed your hair yet that day but by golly it didn't matter cuz you were doing what made you happy what brought you joy and excitement and endless and timeless adventures and thrills! That my friend is passion! Close your eyes and go back and feel that excitement you once felt...go ahead close your eyes and remember and FEEL. That, that feeling, that is PASSION! What happened? It started getting squeezed out and responsibilities and to do lists edged their way in and then puff...no more passion. Time is lost though out our days with all that adulthood brings with it but we need to remember living our life in passion brings so much joy into our existence and our cups start overflowing onto everything and everyone! Life becomes more colorful! We only get one shot at this game called life, ONE shot! Think about that, I have been and when I find myself saying, "I want to do that", I don't just long for that, I actually get my dusty butt off the couch and try it! No one is looking to see if we are "doing it right", so just do it...as Niki says.
Elizabeth Gilbert, author of "Eat, Pray, Love", said, "Ask yourself, what do I really, really, really, want, and you have to say really, really three times or it won't come true". What do you really, really, really want? How can you bring passion into your life?
Have a dance party with yourself in your living room...put on that sparkly tutu that has been sitting in the back of your closet begging for you to wear and dance! Pssssssssst~ do it with your eyes closed so no one can see you!

Time change...

They say when we change the clocks in the fall, it's fall behind...I prefer to call it Fall Forward, into my life, myself, my truth. I am still on my journey of self and of late started a new visual documentation of my journey within. Discovering truths I already knew but didn't see outside of me...that's because I have been looking outside of me to find them....this new series Im working on called, "Evolution of the feminine me", will feature areas of my creative self I have not paid attention to...I am going in and really listening to what my inner world in saying to me and bringing that inner to the outside...similar to a flower opening its beauty from the inside out for all to enjoy..
I hope you follow me on my journey and can also be inspired to open your blossom for all to see...

Ok so November was my last post! HA! Lots to talk about but I'm going to save it for another time.
It's SPRING so I am making a fresh start! You can too! If you've lost track of your ideas and goals and that "to do list" is now where in sight, fret not! Just start again! Spring time is to see the seeds we have planted and to start clearing what we don't need to make room for new growth!
Great book I'm reading now is "The Artist Guide" by Jackie Battenfield, highly recommend this, and not to just add to your collection but to actually read!
I'm also painting a new body of work...nope..can't see any yet.....so the studio is humming again and wheels are turning...

Maybe you put fresh sheets on your bed or folded you laundry just so. Not creative you say! No no! think about it, you create ALL day long!

I just LOVE collage lately! It really is adding a different perspective to my art and thinking process!....There is alot to say in this piece!
Have u started your 5 minute creativity workout yet? Sit down for 5minutes and just scribble with your eyes shut, open them and see if you see anything in the scribbles, like when u look up at the clouds and see shapes and images...same thing! Maybe outline the image u see or color it in. See if the doodle relates to any part of your life....just see, just play and have 5 minutes of fun!

ok so I do this anyway, creating art everyday but I don't always post it and I am committing to posting something everyday here for a month! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! I type away here with a really bad head cold but my eye is still on my prize, my dream! I eat, sleep and dream about my new art studio to paint in and teach in...how? I don't know yet, just one baby step at a time! <3

so i usually do a 5-10min collage everyday and write random words that come to mind and write a story or a poem with the words...k let me see....

Reaching, growing, opening doors to the simple energy of love. Giving space to dream, heart to grow a place, to commune with self and life around me.

Realizing Our Dreams

So I've been studying with my creative coach and mentor Whitney Ferre, The Artist Within, and let me tell you, exercising my creative brain as well as my muscles in the rest of my body is the funnest activity of my day! Being a professional artist has its creative demands and sometimes does not breath enough freedom into letting go to explore without worry of outcome. Becoming creatively fit with Whitney's program has strengthened my creative muscle with new definition and tone that has taken me on a journey in life I have only dreamt of, owning my own art studio! Yes, MY art studio! Allowing my creative process to overflow off my canvas and into my life has allowed the world to open up to me and given me the courage to say YES to opportunity and saying YES to my canvases, giving myself more permission to explore in my professional work, taking me on journey's that are filled with love and acceptance.
All it takes is 10-15 minutes of your day...I add this in to my morning meditation routine...take out your journal and a pen or pencil and start doodling, no rhyme or reason just doodle, and see the magic unfold...try it...i dare ya!

LOVE

So here I am again! Back to write about love, love of life, love of self and love of others! That's all there is really love, or as the Beatles say, "all you need is love". When everything comes out of that and from that then really nothing is wrong and the world opens to us, me and you. I struggle with loving myself daily, but I also practice loving myself daily! Yay me! Practice...hmmm...that's what I do on my mat in yoga, that's what I do everyday with my paints and canvas, so it's no different for me to be practicing love for self! And I find that is exactly it, practice. Do I get it right all the time? God no! But when I catch myself complaining or really not loving myself then I take a long look at myself in the mirror and give thanks to the reflection I see....I look at my face and I can SEE, and I have hair and I can hear! I slowly look down at my neck and all the way through to my toes and everything is there and it works and has worked so hard for me! I was created in Gods name how can I not be beautiful and LOVE. When I practice love in all areas of my life the focus is then of me (ego) and on someone or something else and exciting things happen! They happen because love is the water, the life force, the energy for it all..........try some LOVE today and see what happens!

Lessons in Nature

On a retreat over the weekend, we went on a noble silence walk and then sat by a beautiful stream to meditate. As I sat with my eyes closed listening to nature, I opened my eyes with emergency as to not miss one more minute of our beautiful earth! With eyes wide open taking in the breath taking views of nature, I realized in an instant the lessons nature gives us. I was watching with distant eyes leaves falling from a tree near me. No big deal right? Wrong! It was if I was looking at a tree for the first time! I noticed its bumps and lumps and weathered bark! How genuinely beautiful this tree was! Then the most amazing thing happened! As the leaves were softly drifting to the grown, I realized the tree was shedding what does not serve it any longer! No story about it, just dropping its leaves and that was that. The tree was leaving behind what it did not leave in order to make room for new growth! Now I've been watching trees drop leaves for 47 years and this is the first time I ever made this analogy! A light bulb went off for me! Shed what does not serve me with no story around it to make room for new! But the most amazing part of this for me was that the trees leaves do not come back right away! It's a process! AH HA!

Make a MESSY! go for it! do it! It's wicked fun i promise u!

When WAS the last time you let yourself make a mess? Never? Why? Why would you deny yourself the magic of making a mess? How can you really learn anything without making the mess? No I don't just mean playing outside and coming in with dirt every where, which I highly recommend! I mean be willing to not be perfect, to say the wrong thing, to fall out of a pose in yoga or by putting the wrong spice in a new recipe your creating! What is the worse possible thing that can happen? UMMMMMMMMMMM...u know what not to do next time, or you laugh at yourself! What a joy it is to LAUGH at our messes! HAHAHAHA...
Going into my studio everyday and purposely, PURPOSELY, make a mess on my canvases! This gets the excitement going, the juices flowing and before I know it my monkey mind is shut off and I am in my source and connected with God. I discover things about my paintings that work and things that don't . I discover things about me and that I am ok! Oh and do I laugh alot!
So, I dare you, go make a mess today! <3

Is that damn thing glued on there so tight we don't even consciously know the difference between when it's on and when it's off? So then if I am running around with a mask on how in the hell do I take it off and is my existence a lie? Is my work as an artist a lie to? Do I hide behind my work or is THAT, the work really me? Hmmmm. How do we, I , break out of our chains of ego and live in source?

Gotta, gotta, gotta do this, gotta do that, oh no I, I, I...on and on and on...sometimes I find that these are my days and at the end of the day I find if I don't put BREATHE on my' to do list ', then really nothing gets done at all!
Do you ever have these days? Or are all your days like this? I do have goals and dreams and aspirations and so want to live my life to the fullest, but nothing will get accomplished if I don't do the simplest task on my list, BREATHE. Inhale, exhale,..inhale, exhale..ok now that's a bit better. As I am sitting her typing I even find my mind racing and holding my breath?!...LOL...Without this simple gift of breath, we, I really have nothing at all! I miss out on my day, on the things and life I am creating and then simply living out of myself.
Yesterday this all hit me and made me rethink Breathe and I had an aha moment! Coming back from cleaning, I had a million and one things to do before I left for my daughters graduation ceremony. One task was to finish some painting panels for my yoga bags so I can bring them to my mom's for her to start sewing while I am away this weekend. These bags are going to Kripalu, so they have to be my bestest work ever! Gulping down my lunch without BREATHE, I enter my studio with the same pace and as one brush stroke turns into another and another, I STOP in my tracks and literally had to take a BREATH! OMG I said! I'm not breathing and I and rushing to get this done! I was not enjoying what I was doing and found I wasn't even SEEING what it was I was creating! Once this realization hit, I stopped, put down the brushes turned off my lights and left the studio. I grabed a cup of tea and sat outside and closes my eyes. Inhale, ...exhale...inhale...exhale...slowly, slowly...I started to hear the birds, then I started to listen to them, hearing the level of notes and listening to one over here and then over there and then a car pass by, a bee hum near me, then the notes of the bird over my head. BREATHE

I tend to take life so seriously and I practice daily letting go...I started a new series of just that and finding amazing things about myself! As I vigorously slap the paint on and around using hands, brushes, knives I am having a BALL! Letting my ego take a vacation and really letting myself explore and let go! I have no idea as to what will happen, I start with the pure intention to let go and be open, allowing a mark to happen without second guessing the reason or if will work or not..I can always change my mind! I actually give myself permission to change my mind and follow my heart on a magical journey into myself! I have no real words to explain what transforms in me, but when I am complete I have feelings of being whole again and content.
Stepping back to examine the work completed I am amazed at what I find! It is the same amazement I have in my yoga practice! When I give myself real permission to step aside and feel and be, be and feel my practice amazes me and the journey takes me farther into me!
Give yourself permission to step aside and go make a mess somewhere, invent, explore and dream! You will be amazed at your discoveries!

intuitive painting

how often do we create and end our session with pure joy and excitement that brings us back to child like glee?!...if the answer is not often or never then creating is not coming from the heart or soul..it is coming from the mind. The mind wants control over everything even are art work and it will do anything to get what it wants. The mind is manipulative and selfish...learning to let go of this will bring pure joy and enlightenment to ones creativity, giving you freedom and permission and joy like no other type of painting.! The answer lies in soul and letting go of product and gaining wisdom through process. Painting is process not product, its the journey not the result.......remember when we were kids and when we colored or painted we were sooooooo happy...we sang or danced around and choose colors randomly and shapes with not a second thought! we found our power and voice through the journey of that painting session not what was created.........we had enthusiasm to do another then another and another until our little hearts took us somewhere else.....try letting go and let the paint brush guide you, it has all the answers...

Can Simplicity be Enough?

I look at art work every second of my existence ! I marvel in others visions, talents, expressions and mediums. I delight in their journey and wonder how i can get "that" in my work and journey!...i study the masters, read, practice and practice....then i get hit with the wonderment and spontaneous simplicity of art by children. Ages 3 and up...but mostly art from the 3 and 5 year old and their easy and simple views of life and imagination!..There is no drama and second guess of placement or color choice..it is what it is. Awh the beauty in this so simple statement of color and shape..drawing me in closer and closer to my connection to my child and wonderment of it all! Can I, my art be achieved with simplicity? Does there have to be such drama? Can art be successful in simplicity? Do we have to have a level of intellectualism to gather success in a painting? Can it truly be achieved w/ the simple thoughts of our inner child?...Can the drama be the simplicity? Can it? Is it enough?

Moving Beyond

What do you do when you really dont want to do something but you cant not get out of it? You might be surprised that it's just the place you needed to be in...This whole week I've been reading blog posts or hearing from instructors their inner truth that they just didnt want to be there at that particular day or event! Going anyway open doors to them as it did this week to me too!
Having my weekly painting classes sometimes gets a bit much for my schedule and last night was no exception. I wanted to use every excuse to cancel the class! Only one student was coming so I figured why bother?..Oh the jokes on me my friends. This is the juicy part of process and finding our self and intriguing discoveries! With keeping my commitment I was able to also paint with some beautiful energy and going to places in myself I usually decide I dont have time for! I started to bring a story onto this paper opening new dimensions and stories I was never aware of...and I laughed and had fun! Also staying true to my commitment allow my student to stay true to her commitment and with process work we tend to find every reason in the book to not do it! So I am grateful that I was able to do that for her and the joy it did bring me I would not have had, had I canceled the class!
So next time you are tempted to not go somewhere or do something, see if you can go and do it anyway...YOu might be surprised as to what happens!

This month even though it's almost over, I find I need to talk about transformation,my transformation..upon a recent injury to my lower back and other related areas to my body, I sit at my drawing table and work on my paintings in pure discomfort. These new paintings are detailed and meditative. A recent one that I have not posted yet is a butterfly. This my just sound like a simple butterfly but its not! I've been having the darnedest time finishing it. Then it came to me in my yoga practice why this butterfly was giving me so much trouble! My injuries, this butterfly....I'm transforming! The only way to finish this butterfly and to heal is to let it happen! What an AHA moment if I ever saw one! LIVE LIFE IN COLOR!

Beauty in the Imperfect!

I am compelled to write about this...imperfection! Along with being a full time artist I am a committed yogi! With that I am encouraged to find in my practice the beauty of the imperfect and to honor that and be at one. As I continue my yogi journey and learn from my struggles and rejoice in my breakthroughs, it always reminds me that I have to treat my self with the same respect when I do yoga as when I paint! I am not perfect on or off the mat and off the mat I find myself in my studio thinking that I have to be to achieve that next beautiful painting! I will never get there until I honor my imperfections and find beauty and grace in the unknown and the "mistakes".
My new line of paintings are yoga bags and in this new little journey my inner voice is so loud right now, complaining that no one will want them or like them, or they are not good enough and people could go and get a manufactured one better. Then I sit and remind myself that there is BEAUTY in the IMPERFECT! I do my absolute best in every painting I created, every painting is me! I am love and kind, patient and caring...this all goes into my work...so if it is not perfect in some eyes, that is ok, one day they will find beauty in the imperfect!

January Happenings

Can anyone believe it is January already, and 2010 for that matter!?...Well I can not! Well here we are in the new year and my focus this year is to blog more and of course sell my work and teach. I find the most challenging aspect of being and artist is of course the painting, but getting the viewer to commit to a purchase. I am scratching my head daily to discover what it is the customer wants! I love the excitement when the viewer is engaged with a painting and the stories I can see that are swimming around in their minds, so I know that part of my job I did...but what about the other part..What really makes a person decide to purchase art? Daily, along with painting I commit WAY to much time in front of the computer networking and learning, which of course never goes to waste but OH how the canvas calls! I surrender to balance, I paint, I promote and the rest I leave alone. I only have control over myself and my presentation of work, the rest will have to work it's own way out. I have recently added a new dimension to my work and working on a prototype of hand painted yoga bags. So with this new venture comes its challenges and rewards and oh what a new window of creativity that has opened for me...so I excited to be on yet another creative mystery and who knows.... So I have my goals, I need to make check lists and try not to stray to much from that, time in studio actually painting and really enjoying my process and to excite people with their visual journey! One never knows the end result, the focus is on the process and enjoying the journey. Reflection 2009

Ok, Im recommitting for 2010 to blog more and do as promised, to discuss my process in painting and a little about what it means to me to be an artist!
But before I do any of that I think if I bring myself through 2009 I will see and you will see a little of what goes on here at RLM STUDIOS.
After not being involved faithfully to my art for 5yrs or more, my commitment to art everyday from 2008-now has been strong and even thought I need improvements in that commitment, I have kept it. In return, I have been in 7(i think, maybe more) art shows and selling at most of them. I won an award this year and have sold through my online venues, not enough but considering it has only been a year that is not bad! I have been able to introduce my Expressive Art to a hand full of wonderful students with the intention of bringing this to even more! I also have a permanate collection in a dance studio and have had the opportunity to display in other public forums.
I have made beautiful connections with lots of talented people on and off line and this I am grateful for! Without connections I'm lost, it's important to share and receive for all of us to grow and become better at what it is we do.
I have had the blessing to take some private and public workshops to expand on my knowledge and move past my limits as a person and artist!
Who would have thought that any of this would be! Even with being layed off in the spring I have still continued to march forward! Of course I trip and fall but I'm supposed to, this way I can find my way?!
I do want to tell you that sitting here typing this I now really really realize what I've done this year and I want to emphasize I.
The challenges for 2010 are going to be more fierce and on FIRE for if I dont put it out there then how on earth will I ever find it?!
Being an artist and showing my work and then selling it, IS a scary thing but no scarier than anyone else and their challenges!

Hi all! just wanted to share what i've been up to this week?!...im really focusing on calming the mind and transforming that stillness energy into a daily quick drawing or painting. today i ventured down stairs and rode my bike for 20 mins!....my feet can have more pressure on them now...i feel way better having moved my legs a bit and got my heart rate up...but it did tire me out!...k back to creating...i sit in bed and doodle in my journal longing to be painting instead...i have to relax and slow down to heal...enjoy this quiet healing time to reflect and journal more...the focus being slow down, enjoy my journey and allow my life to unfold as the process grows.......

creating expression as habit

this is day 5 since surgery on my feet. being layed up in bed with minimal movement throughout the house prevents me from going into my studio to paint...upstairs came the journal, pens, markers and crayons...i may not be able to paint intuitively but i sure can make marks with other tools...creating has become a habit for me and its discouraging when i cant paint but i can still do something, i can still challenge my intuition and still prompt expression , im just changing my tool! creating has become that important that i feel non connection to soul and self if i dont create some how!....and its not comfortable using other tools that i tend not to enjoy as much as paint but thats the point of growth , to not ever be comfortable.......this is how the creative part of our soul gets exercise!

this is such and energetic way of painting and I'm so glad that i discovered this!!! good books to read on the subject by Michelle Cassou and Aviva Gold...I highly recommend getting any and all of them...this was a life changing experience and want to devote more time to this type of painting...I am trying to go back to the other way I paint and I can not seem to find the passion in it anymore...I have to think to much with the other type of painting. I also am learning as to WHY is it that I paint? Is it for me? Is it for approval? Is it to make money? OR is it for ME!!!! This is the question now...I feel let down by my other approach to painting and the purpose it didn't serve or did it?
I am reconnecting with my spiritual self that I abandoned and do not want to any longer...........

all of this art, life , everything is what we believe...we have to tear our walls down and charge at life as if there are no walls!!! or failures...same holds true with our art. Full steam ahead...of course there are a few guide lines to art but really its all about feed our souls...its about being free and little again and making that magic sand castle in the sand and having fun. It all does not work and thats what gesso is for...cover up the areas that dont work and rework it!!! its never the end result it is what we learn about ourself and about our art along the way..the journy as we hear over and over. it takes practice..to face that blank canvas and go about it as if its our last play date...but if we face that blank canvas with a belief in our self that no one can take away then the supprises along the way and in the end are very rewarding.........

k...from a work shop i took i no longer do just one painting of a subject or theme...i do a series...this allows us to learn and go further...one painting i started yesterday and i loved it and was afraid to go further...i didnt knw what to do...so i did it again and went further...and i hated the first one...?!!!! this method really works and allows us to learn....

i knw this info but its still learned each and every time you show work to your family!!! k...i show new pieces to family members not because i wanted to but they wanted to see recent work...especially because i came back from a work shop...so i show them...i have about 20 pieces and they are all same subject matter or theme and they say...they are all the same!!!
i reply yup...then they say why all the red...and what is it... a glass with a straw!??? OMG people...i knw you cant see the paintings...i have to up load them still...but not the point...

Never ever paint for anyone but your self...your authentic self...and never look for family approval...you will never ever get it...they dont get it

Well i havent added to this blog for i've been concentrating my efforts on my work...so soon i will upload my new work!! im very excited about my new pieces, they are evidence that i am growing and pushing myself into areas of my creativity that i was to fightened to before...we can get caught up in continually making "pretty" art but i dont think that's what being an artist is, at least not for me...i think its about discovering who we are and connecting to that outer soul, redirecting energy into shapes and color creating purpose for our existance.? ! keep creating!!!
